M.SC. IN RADIO FREQUENCY ENGINEERING (MSc RFE) (EE760) - MIXED-MODE PROGRAMME

COURSE CONTENT

The program aims to provide a suitable for students wishing to pursue a career in telecommunication and information engineering.

The program comprises the following courses:-

CORE COURSES:

SYSTEM DESIGN 1-ACTIVE CIRCUITS:-

The subject introduces design methods for microwave transistor amplifiers and oscillators. The emphasis will be on design, aided by commercially available computeraided design (CAD) packages Genesys, Sonnet and Microwave Studio. A typical design activity will include emulation of sub-systems on the package.

SYSTEM DESIGN 2-PASSIVE CIRCUITS:-

The subject introduces design methods for microwave antenna and filter. The emphasis will be on design, aided by commercially available computer-aided design (CAD) packages CST and ADS software. A typical design activity will include simulation of sub-systems on the package.

RADIO FREQUENCY CIRCUITS:-

The subject introduces fundamental concepts of RF circuits involving several transmission media such as microstrip and microwave integrated circuits. The aim is to provide a detailed understanding of the principles involved in RF circuit analysisfor use in system design. The emphasis will be on design, aided by commerciallyavailable computer-aided design (CAD) packages Genesys, Sonnet and Microwave Studio. A typical design activity will include simulation of RF circuits on the package.

RESEARCH & DISSERTATION I AND RESEARCH & DISSERTATION II:-

This subject is intended for students to take an individual project, which will be supervised by a member of the faculty with relevant expertise. The selected project will be a technical topic in electrical and electronics engineering. Students are required to conduct a library search and literature review for a project selected by student under the guidance of supervisor. In addition, students are expected to do project planning and preliminary experimental, computer simulation and theoretical investigation of the project.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The course consists of a supervised project or research module. Each student works on a selected topic relevant to the RF Engineering industries. The student will also study the entrepreneurial opportunities the project or research might present. The duration is one semester. At the end of the semester, each student will submit a report to the lecturer.
